Business Development Representative

The Business Development Representative will work with a selected small to medium size business, under the direction of the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre and will focus on growing the selected business’ revenue. The primary role of the Business Development Representative is to prospect for new clients by networking, cold calling, advertising or other means of generating interest from potential clients. They will work the Innovation Centre and the selected client to develop and implement an effective marketing strategy. They must then plan persuasive approaches and pitches that will convince potential clients to do business with the company through engaging with new prospective clients, direct sales, and online marketing.


The goal of the Go Global program is to achieve substantial sales growth for six small to medium sized companies, through the hiring, training, mentoring and supporting of a dedicated Business Development Representative position in each of the participating companies. The Innovation Centre will identify the needs of the participating businesses, help recruit the right candidate, and provide them with the necessary skills, support and mentorship. During the 15 month program, the Business Development Representative, the company and the team at the Innovation Centre will set sales targets, develop and implement sales and marketing strategies, monitor results, adjust strategies and achieve results. The Business Development Representatives will be employees of the Innovation Centre for the duration of the 15 month program.


The selected applicants will participate in a robust professional sales training boot camp, regular peer to peer sessions with other participants, and regular mentorship and coaching by dedicated business professionals. The Go Global program is designed to financially incentivize participant performance.


Qualifications

  • Post-Secondary Degree in a business, engineering, science or a related field, or related work experience.
  • Relevant work experience

Duties

  • Identify opportunities for marketing and sales campaigns, services, and distribution channels that will lead to an increase in sales.
  • Prospect for potential new clients and sources of revenue.
  • Cold call as appropriate to ensure a robust pipeline of sales opportunities.
  • Meet potential clients by growing, maintaining, and leveraging your network.
  • Identify potential clients and the decision makers within the client organization.
  • Research and build relationships with new clients.
  • Plan sales approaches and sales pitches
  • Handle objections by clarifying, emphasizing agreements and working through differences to a positive conclusion, use a variety of styles to persuade or negotiate appropriately.
  • Identify, plan, schedule and attend industry functions, such as association events and conferences, provide feedback and information on market and creative trends, and follow up with all leads generated.
  • Manage and implement digital and social media campaigns.
  • Present an image that mirrors that of the business.

  • Willing to reside in Northwestern Ontario
  • Be between the ages of 18-29
  • Be legally entitled to work in Canada.
