The Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre is partnering with Procept Associates to deliver a comprehensive project management curriculum This is an outstanding opportunity for project-focused organizations to build their talent base, for future Project Manager's on the road to their PMP, or for existing PMs to maintain their certifications. The below courses are offered to participants as individual courses and as a Certificate program. Those that enroll in the Certificate program will receive a certificate from Lakehead University upon completion.
Here is a list of the courses that will be offered. Please note, courses will be delivered in half-day sessions and the dates are subject to change, but we are avoiding July, Aug, and Christmas holidays due to the usual vacation time. Participants will have the opportunity to select the courses most relevant to them.
These courses will be instructor-led virtual deliveries.
2025/2026 Cohort Course Dates:
Project Management Essentials: (3 day course, delivered in 6 half days)
- This 3-day fundamental course is an accessible, hands-on journey through a project from initiation to closing, with a special emphasis on initiation and planning. Course participants work in project teams to practice PM tools while they experience the realistic challenges that are encountered on projects. Although it is possible to customize a case study for a specific industry or organization, this course offers 2 case studies so there is something for everyone.
This course is accredited by the Project Management Association of Canada (PMAC) as meeting their standards for quality. After completing this course, participants are eligible to write the Certified Project Coordinator (CPC) exam from PMAC.

Project Communications & Stakeholder Management: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- This course is designed to provide participants with an understanding of the complexity of managing stakeholders and project communications. We will cover the processes, tools and techniques of Project Communications Management and Project Stakeholder Management as presented in the Project Management Institute's (PMI®) A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge®

Defining and Managing Project Requirements: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- Participants will learn elicitation tools and techniques to discover the underlying requirements that contribute to solutions that produce desired outcomes. Through the use of techniques for clarifying expected deliverables and discovering overlooked requirements, participants will be better prepared to work on projects characterized by uncertainty and high levels of change. The course will cover requirements verification, traceability and change management techniques for both predictive and agile project environments. Participants will discover different ways to present requirements to stakeholders to maximize comprehension and encourage feedback.

Managing Project Risk: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- This course looks at risk identification, qualitative, and quantitative techniques to identify the likelihood of a risk occurring and the impact if it does. A variety of risk response strategies are discussed and practiced during workshop exercises. Upon course completion, participants will be more confident in their ability to manage uncertainty.

Project Scheduling Essentials: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- This course is for those who need to create and use one of the most valuable project management tools: a project schedule. Defining project success often involves completing on time and on budget, and project budgets are often driven by resource costs and the scheduling of those resources. It prepares participants to create realistic schedules, resource load those schedules, and update and track project progress.

Project Cost Management: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- This course provides participants with an understanding of project cost estimating, budget development, and budget management. It is not intended to provide participants with the detailed methods of financial accounting. You will discuss project estimating methods, assigning and managing contingency, creating a time-phased project budget and practice earned value. The tools used in this workshop will provide you with stronger techniques to monitor and report on your project performance.

Leading Project Driven Change: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- This course introduces project managers to the fundamentals of change management practice, helping them to understand the risks introduced by change resistance and how to reduce or eliminate those risks. By incorporating the techniques revealed in this course into their toolkits, project managers will be better able to deal with stakeholders, reduce project delays, increase efficiencies, and reduce the risk of not meeting a project's business case objectives.

Introduction to Agile Project Management: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- This course will introduce stakeholders and project team members to the agile way of working using the common Scrum framework. Unlike typical Scrum-based training, however, the course expands the framework to include an overview of agile requirements management techniques and agile estimating and planning techniques that are used to set reasonable stakeholder expectations at the start of an agile project.

- This course will guide you through procurement practices, the bid process, contract negotiations, managing contractors and vendors for optimum performance and provide a taste of contract law. This course will provide the fundamental tools required for project managers. It will also offer you an insight into the role of the procurement officer or buyer on a project team.

Project Closeout Best Practice: (1 day course, delivered in 2 half days)
- This 1-day workshop introduces project managers to the best practices for getting final signoffs and closing out projects. Project managers will come away with a structured closeout framework and some templates that can be used to complete an orderly project closeout.
