INNOVATION CENTRE RELEASES ICT CONNECTION ONLINE DATABASE AND DISCUSSES CURRENT AND FUTURE INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY TALENT ISSUES IN NWO.
Thursday January 12, 2017 – In an effort to understand and match the supply and demand for information and communication technology talent in Northwestern Ontario, the Innovation Centre developed the ICT Connection website database. Since employees are a company's most important asset, finding the right talent is an important process for any business.
The database makes it easy for businesses to identify the right talent for the right job; whether it a short term project or long term employment. It is also useful for gaining insight into the skillsets in our region and the demand for specific skills. By individuals listing their skills on the ICT Connection, businesses are able to find the talent they are seeking.
Currently, there are 66 individuals/businesses registered in the database.
The ICT Connection database can be accessed at: https://www.nwoinnovation.ca/ict-connection.
Today marks the official launch of the ICT Connection with a presentation of data outlining the supply and demand for talent in this critical sector (see attached infographic for a snapshot of the information gathered to-date). ICT managers from various technology businesses have been invited to attend a luncheon following the launch. In 2016, the Innovation Centre hosted a round table discussion with stakeholders in this sector and discussed talent challenges and opportunities. To follow-up this discussion, the Centre spoke to ICT students at high school, college and university levels and asked questions about their perceptions and future plans.
The Innovation Centre views the data from the ICT Connection database as crucial to the development of a strategy that ensures adequate supply of information technology talent in our region. Approximately two thirds of the Innovation Centre’s client base is in the IT sector and the Centre realizes that access to talent is the key component for continued growth of this sector.
