We are under construction!
Confederation College is incredibly excited to be working towards the development of a new Technology, Education and Collaboration (TEC) Hub on the Thunder Bay Campus. This new facility will contribute to the development of a skilled, employment-ready technology and trades workforce for northwestern Ontario. It will also host vibrant research, incubation and technology transfer services to support the region’s advanced manufacturing, technology and resource sectors. In addition, the TEC Hub will further support our longstanding partnership with the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre.
Thanks to some favourable weather conditions, construction has begun this week and we wanted to make sure you were aware of some upcoming changes to our property that will affect you.
Starting on Monday, April 3
Road access surrounding the McIntyre Building and the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre, will be adjusted to ensure the health and safety of students, employees, clients and visitors. As a result, please be prepared for the following changes:
Nipigon Road and East Nipigon Road Entrance (off of William Street)
- This east entrance of Nipigon Road (off of William Street) will be limited to local traffic only, including those needing to access the Children and Family Centre, the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre and the Sibley Hall Residence
- Nipigon Road will be closed for through traffic on the east side of the McIntyre Building
- Nipigon Road will remain open on the west side of the McIntyre Building and will be the main access point through construction. Please drive slowly and with caution in this area due to the increased traffic
Red Rock Drive, Front Entrance of McIntyre Building and Entrance for Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre
- Red Rock Drive will be adjusted to create a one-way traffic loop connecting to the east portion of Nipigon Road that remains open for local traffic only
- There will be a temporary entrance for the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre at the south end of the building
- City buses will be redirected to Nipigon Road on the west side of the McIntyre Building and temporary bus stops will be installed
Parking
- Parking for the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre will be in Lot Q (by Sibley Hall)
These changes will remain in effect until the completion of construction in 2018. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact Judy Sander, Manager of the Northwestern Ontario Innovation Centre, at judy@nwoinnovation.ca or (807) 768-6696.
