Young people today are 3 times more likely to be unemployed than adults. You don't want them to get out there and create their own job not when they can live in your basement unemployed until they are 40.
Skills developed by entrepreneurs include opportunity recognition, innovation, critical thinking, resilience, decision making, teamwork, and leadership. Heck these skills are not valuable in other aspects of life. Focus on their slap shot, they are much more likely to become an NHL player!
Young people who are self employed have higher life satisfaction. Okay, is life satisfaction something you really want for your children?
Entrepreneurship requires managing risk, believing in something, and putting your ideas out there. Considering that playgrounds are no longer safe, entrepreneurship is way too challenging for this next generation.
Entrepreneurship is hard work! Well, hard work is hard work.....when they are old enough take them to the corner store and share all your knowledge and strategy in purchasing lottery tickets. With 1 in 28.6 million odds for Lotto Max it is a much easier strategy than hard work.
Commitment? Who needs that? It sounds like an awful lot of work to dedicate yourself to something longer than an episode of Jersey Shore. Entrepreneurs have to persevere. I'd rather my child become a doctor that only takes 8 to 10 years.
Oh and it requires passion...Who needs that when you can be passionate about flipping burgers and stocking shelves at Wal-Mart or the all important duty of data entry.
So when your child says "I'm bored", please don't sign them up for our BizKids Summer Camp or encourage them to come out to our events on campus. Keep them home, keep them safe. Remember they are our future and we don't want them building businesses, creating jobs and diversifying our economy.
