Confucius says "Choose a job that you love and you won't have to work another day." But doesn't that ruin retirement?
During my 16 years with the Centre I have worked through – 2 managers, 1 name change, 2 moves, several staff turnovers, completed more projects and claims than I can count, and found time to learn to play the bagpipes. I have worked with people who can remember where they were when Elvis died and those who think John Wayne was a country singer. A famous saying at the Innovation Centre has always been that “we will get to that when things slow down around here.” Well it has finally come to that for me.
While I look forward to enjoying my retirement and spending some long awaited time with my patient husband and family, my thoughts are tinged with sadness as well. It's difficult saying goodbye to co-workers, colleagues and the Centre’s clientele that I consider as friends.
I will miss working for the Innovation Centre and I would like to take this opportunity to thank you all for your friendship, help and support. We have shared some great experiences and had more than a few laughs along the way! It has been a real pleasure working side by side with you all and you have made my job so very enjoyable.
I’m retiring from a full time job – not from life so don’t be surprised if from time to time you see me at the Innovation Centre filling in, helping out or just stopping by to say hello.
In closing I would like to make a Scottish toast to lying, stealing, cheating and drinking. If you're going to lie, lie for a friend. If you're going to steal, steal a heart. If you’re going to cheat, cheat death. And if you're going to drink, drink with me.
