Five tips to help you stay on track with your New Year’s resolutions as an entrepreneur

Setting goals is always an important part of growing your small business or start-up. When the New Year rolls around it’s the perfect time to set goals for your business for the next twelve months. These goals are easy to set but can be very hard to keep, about 70% of us will see our New Year’s resolutions fail before February even starts. That’s why we’ve compiled a list of tips to help you stay on track and knock your New Year’s resolutions out of the park!

Tip One: Plan Ahead

When setting your goals for the new year don’t wait, setting the goals for your company should be planned out ahead of time this will help you be more prepared for what you plan to achieve in the new year. In saying that not all of your goals need to be decided by the first week of January, in fact, it can actually help you be more successful in achieving your goals if you really take some time to sit down and plan them out. Some goals you might not set until halfway through the year, after other goals you had have been met. We can’t read the future and things happen that we can’t always predict, therefor as the year progresses you might need to add to the goals you already have as your company grows and develops.

Tip two: Write It Down

Once you decided on your New Year’s resolutions and goals write them down. That way as the year goes on you can track your progress of each goal. Creating a logbook will help you understand exactly where your progress towards completing each goal.

Tip Three: Schedule Check-Ins

It’s not uncommon to completely forget the goals you set for the New Year after a few months have gone by. We all have busy lives and sometimes other things get in the way. Setting several days aside throughout the year to assess the progress of your goals will help you to stay on track. To help with this you can also set smaller sub-goals to keep you motivated and engaged with the larger picture.

Tip Four: Learn From Your Mistakes

Making mistakes along the way is all a part of the process. Quite often people think that if they make one mistake they are going to fail. This is not the case at all, everyone makes mistakes. The important thing about making mistakes is that you learn from each one you make. The most successful individuals take those mistakes and turn them into opportunities to grow stronger and become better at their craft.

Tip Five: Start When You’re Ready

This final tip may come last on this list but it is most definitely not the least important. There is no need to start your New Year’s resolutions on January first in fact, this could put you at a disadvantage if you’re not ready. Waiting to start your goal-reaching process until you feel fully committed will give you the opportunity to make sure you are fully invested in its success.

If you’ve struggled in the past staying committed to completing the goals you’ve set for your businesses don’t feel discouraged, you can change that. Commit to making this year the year that your resolutions will be successful.
